えいが - Movie: Hayate no Gotoku!! 2 Episode 18

Here is another episode of the anime Hayate No Gotoku (Hayate the Combat Butler)
In this one you can learn a little about White Day.
Hayate no Gotoku!! 2 Episode 18

White Day is 1 month after Valentine's Day, and males who received honmei-choko (love chocolate) or giri-choko (courtesy chocolate) on Valentine's Day are expected give gifts (usually more expensive than the Valentine's gift received) in return.

Its a good example on how Valentine's Day is different in Japan than in America.

In Japan girls hand out chocolate to boys as an expression of love. There are two kinds chocolates given out on Valentine's Day: honmei-choko (love chocolate) and giri-choko (courtesy chocolate).

からおけ - Karaoke: Through the Night (Outlaw Star Opening)

Here is the video

And here are the lyrics to the からおけ :

semenai de kesanai de makenai de dare datte motteru hazu yuzurenai mono
Don't make fun of it! Don't destroy it! Don't cheapen it! That one thing everyone has that they won't give up.

ai dake yume dake kimi dake sore dake ha hanasanai donna toki demo
Only love! Only dreams! Only you! Those are the only things I won't let go, ever.

doushi you mo naku ochitsukanai yoru nani mo kamo nagedashitaku naru tsube kobe iwazu ni sassato DOA o akena rikutsu nante koneteru HIMA ha nai
On nights when I can't settle down no matter what, I just want to throw anything and everything away. Don't bitch and complain, just open the door, ya know. I don't have time to quibble with you.

juuou mujin tobi mawaritai youi shoutou mamori takunai nakushita wake ja nai mada hajimatte nai... dakara
I want to fly all over the place. I wanna throw caution to the wind. Because it's not just intensity. Because it's not just gentless...

semenai de kesanai de makenai de dare datte motteru hazu yuzurenai mono
Don't make fun of it! Don't destroy it! Don't cheapen it! That one thing everyone has that they won't give up.

ai dake yume dake kimi dake sore dake ha hanasanai donna toki demo
Only love! Only dreams! Only you! Those are the only things I won't let go, ever.

nani ga hoshii nani ga shitai doko ni ikitai yami o saite hashiri nukete tsukamitore Through The Night
What do you want? What do you wanna do? Where do you wanna go? Cut through the darkness and run to grab what you want (all) through the night

Grab Bag - Bars and Pubs

My topic for grab bag was bars and pubs. After some research I found that pubs are common places to go for Japanese salary men. In Japan pubs are known as Izakayas and they also serve various foods, such as Tempura, to go along with the drinks customers order. When entering an Izakaya it is common to hear the phrase いっらしゃいませ! which means welcome!

Vocabulary
いざかや - Izakaya - a place to eat and drink, a pub.

いっらしゃいませ! - irrashaimase! - Welcome!

かんぱい - Kanpai - Cheers!

のみともだち - Nomitomodachi - Drinking Buddies

てんぷら - Tempura - Popular Japanese dish that consist of deep fried meats and vegetables.

Here is a video that gives an example of what a typical Izakaya is like.
