My topic for grab bag was bars and pubs. After some research I found that pubs are common places to go for Japanese salary men. In Japan pubs are known as Izakayas and they also serve various foods, such as Tempura, to go along with the drinks customers order. When entering an Izakaya it is common to hear the phrase いっらしゃいませ! which means welcome!
Vocabulary
いざかや - Izakaya - a place to eat and drink, a pub.
いっらしゃいませ! - irrashaimase! - Welcome!
かんぱい - Kanpai - Cheers!
のみともだち - Nomitomodachi - Drinking Buddies
てんぷら - Tempura - Popular Japanese dish that consist of deep fried meats and vegetables.
Here is a video that gives an example of what a typical Izakaya is like.
